This title might be somewhat misleading, depicting myself as a SEO expert or something like that which isn't true. I just focused in few fronts like having a clear and descriptive title, a suitable description, a good and meaningful set of keywords, submission to few of the search engines (I just remembered that I probably submitted my site to two or three search engines!), maintaining a sitemap, reviewing the outcome through some online services and tuning as required.
My site is for my personal use and not meant to be monetized so I am not really bothered about SEO but my concern is whenever someone is searching for me using my name then I should appear in the first page itself as people are tend to have very little patience even to go to next page. And very few people are not aware of the fact that whatever result appears in first two or three (or even more) pages are mostly manipulated and usually have a less chance of being relevant. Anyway so mainly I concentrated on these two phrases:
I hope if someone wants to find me out these are going to be most probable search phrases or keywords. I chose few popular search engines on the basis of its market presence.
First lets look at result (as on July 13, 2008) for the word "krishanu":
- Google: Ranked second. (First one belongs to another Krishanu, a pro photographer!)
- Yahoo!: Ranked first.
- MSN: Ranked second. (First one is for my own gallery!)
- AOL: Ranked second again. (First one again belongs to another Krishanu, a pro photographer!)
- Ask: Ranked third. (First two belongs to two different Krishanu, that pro photographer is just below me though!)
- Altavista: Ranked first.
As far as I remember I submitted my site to only Google, Yahoo! and Dmoz. Anyway moving to the next phrase, result (as on July 13, 2008) for the phrase "krishanu de":
- Google: Ranked first.
- Yahoo!: Ranked first.
- MSN: Ranked first.
- AOL: Ranked first.
- Ask: Ranked third. (First two belongs to two different Krishanu, that pro photographer is just below me though!) Result didn't differ!
- Altavista: Ranked first.
I don't know for sure but I think it's a good result considering just these two search phrases. I am yet not done with experimenting and hoping to do some more offsite and onsite tweaking for SEO but as of now, this is it.
